Test Development

We will develop your tests following psychometric best practices, which are based on professional testing standards as well as legal guidelines. Following these best practices helps to ensure that a test is valid, fair and legally defensible. We provide you with the tools and expertise you need and encourage your internal resources to manage the development steps they have the time and skills to complete.

For each assessment, our psychometricians can facilitate:

  • Program Design:
    Defines the program goals, scope, success criteria, target audience, and number of tests.
  • Job/Competency Analysis:
    A systematic process used to identify the knowledge, skills, and abilities (i.e., competencies) required to perform a job.
  • Test Blueprint Development:
    Provides a road map for the item writers in terms of the topics to be covered by each test, the specific test objectives to be covered under each topic, and the number of test items (i.e., questions) to be written for each test objective.
  • Item Writing:
    An online or in-person workshop that instructs your subject experts on how to write high-quality items (i.e., questions). Our online item writing tools greatly expedite the item writing and review process.
  • Item Review:
    Items go through multiple reviews (e.g., technical, language, bias, psychometric) to make sure they are technically correct, measure important knowledge and skills, are psychometrically sound, are free from spelling, grammar, punctuation errors, and do not appear to favor any particular nationality, race, religion, or gender.
  • Beta Testing:
    Items are administered to a sample of the target population to gather data for statistical analyses.
  • Item and Test Analyses
    Statistically analyze the Items and each test to make sure they meet accepted standards of psychometric quality.
  • Standard Setting:
    Determine the minimum score needed to pass each test.
  • Forms Construction:
    Construct multiple forms (i.e., versions) of a test so that Test Takers do not get the same version twice if they retake the test.
